Liverpool manager Rafael Benitez has confirmed that the club's 4-1 aggregate triumph over Unirea Urziceni in the Europa League has been marred due to the injury sustained by defender during the midweek fixture.

The Slovakia international, who has accumulated 26 appearances in all competitions so far this season, has broken a metatarsal in his right foot.

"We were really disappointed after the game because it was a good result but then we had the bad news about Martin," Benitez reported on the club's official website.

"He's had x-rays today and they confirmed he has a broken metatarsal," the Spaniard added.

"We have to check over the next couple of days how long it will take to recover."

Benitez then added that roaming right-back Glen Johnson has returned to training with the first team squad.

"He's doing well. He was training today with the team - a light training session.

"I was watching him and he was quite sharp. But Sunday [home tie against Blackburn Rovers in the Premier League] will be too soon."
